I’ve been feeling stuck recently. Felt like I need some help. So, I contacted a therapist/hypnotist/NLP person who was really helpful to me years ago. I am going to do a phone session or two with Lynn Sparrow Christie later on this month. In getting ready for that session, I figured I should do the intake interview myself in advance. As I was working on pulling that information together, I realized that a lot of what I has describing sounded like values issues.
(BTW, I use the word values instead of the NLP buzzword “criteria.” That is because of my “duck” principle approach to life in general. You know the duck principle: If it looks like a duck, and it walks like a duck, and it swims like a duck, then chances are it is a duck. You can use whatever word you want, but the everyday word is “values.”)
So, I started with the question, “What is important to me about my life?” Got up to about 20 things in a short period of time. That was last night. Tonight, I came back and started to put them into order. I have not finished yet, but guess what? Funny thing–it looks like the area that I am stuck in is going to end up near the bottom of the list. Who would have predicted that? <g>
I had been looking for some really complicated, obscure source for the problem. You know, why bother with the obvious when you can look for some complicated answer?
What is important to you is where you spend your time and money. Conversely, if you do not know what is important to you, take a look at your “typical day” and your check book register/credit card statement.
Sometimes, it really is that simple.
BTW, Nadal beat Federer today at Wimbledon in what is being called the greatest final ever. I enjoyed it without any of the crazy emotions of the past.
